Canal de Gairaut - 3.5 Km – 100m D+

Le canal de Gairaut est un endroit à part dans Nice ; "caché" au creux de la campagne de Gairaut, le canal serpente tranquillement le long d'un chemin de terre.

Mes souvenirs de ce canal sont très anciens, car mes parents y allaient tous les dimanches matin pour courir ; pendant qu'ils courraient, nous construisions des cabanes dans les bas côté, particulièrement au début du parcours côté vieux chemin de Gairaut.

Le sentier est bordé d'arbres, et est donc partiellement ombragé. Par ailleurs c'est à ma connaissance un des seuls endroits où l'on peut courir sur un terrain "souple", sans avoir à subir de dénivelé trop important. Le canal en lui même est peu profond (30 cm) donc sans risque pour les enfants.

Un aller retour fait 3,5km ; il est bien sûr tout à fait possible de répéter l'exercice pour atteindre 7, 8.7 ou 10.5km, etc.

Pour y accéder ; avec son véhicule personnel, ou ligne de bus 25 ou 63 (arrêt "Ferraudière"). Il est également possible d'y arriver en vélo, en passant soit par Nice nord et le Vieux chemin de Gairaut, soit par Cimiez, la place Commandant Jérôme, puis avenue Cap de Croix.

The Gairaut Canal is a special place in Nice; "hidden" in the hollow of the Gairaut countryside, the canal winds quietly along a dirt road.

My memories of this canal are very old, because my parents used to go there every Sunday morning to run; while they were running, we built huts on the lower side, especially at the beginning of the route (near the "vieux chemin de Gairaut").

The path is bordered by trees, and is therefore partially shaded. Moreover, to my knowledge, it is one of the only places where you can run on "soft" ground, without having to undergo too much gradient. The canal itself is shallow (30 cm) so it is safe for children.

A round trip is 3.5km; it is of course quite possible to repeat the exercise to reach 7, 8.7 or 10.5km, etc.

To access it; with your personal vehicle, or bus line 25 or 63 (stop at "Ferraudière"). It is also possible to reach it by bike, either by way of Nice Nord and the Vieux chemin de Gairaut, or by way of Cimiez, Place Commandant Jérôme, then Avenue Cap de Croix.
